Brief summary in lay language

The subject of the study is the collection of requirements for a virtual reality pain therapy system for geriatric back pain patients. The planned study is part of the BMBF-funded joint project "Virtual Reality in Pain Therapy (ViRST) - Concept for physiotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic pain therapy using immersive virtual reality". By using and connecting current technologies of virtual reality (VR) and sensor technology, an innovative pain therapy concept will be developed in the project.

Brief summary in scientific language

Objectives of the study: • Identification of individual technical and non-technical requirements and requirements for a virtual reality pain therapy system in the target group of geriatric subjects with chronic back pain. • Investigation of physical and psychological burdens of elderly people with chronic back pain.

Interventions, Observational Groups

Arm 1:
Semi-structured, guided interviews will be conducted among the cohort with geriatric chronic back pain patients. Evaluation by means of qualitative content analysis.

Endpoints

Primary outcome:
Collecting requirements for a virtual reality pain therapy system for a multimodal pain therapy of elderly people with chronic back pain using qualitative content analysis.
Secondary outcome:
- What are possible individual factors influencing the pain? - Where are the most common problems with back pain exercises?
