Brief summary in lay language

The objective of the study was to assess whether a universal, age adapted intervention program for regular kindergarten setting promotes social skilles, improves knowledge about adequate social behavior, improves prosocial and reduces problematic behavior in preschool children. The intervention is a classroom-based prevention program for preschool children focusing emotional literacy and regulation, perspective taking, friendship and communication skills and interpersonal problem solving in 34 sessions of 30-40 minutes duration - three times per week – in groups of nine to 14 preschool children. The assessment of social and emotional competences and behavior problems of the children took place directly before and after the intervention and 5 months later.
